There is no time to mess around today!!!!! Let me tell you about a miracle, we were driving to go on an exchange with our sisters about an hour and a half away. I was calling everyone in the area book trying to make appointments for the coming week. there was a call that came in and I didn't have the number, I thought "oh no, its someone I called and I don't remember who it is!" I answered, and a lady said "Hello, this is Kirsten. I just met your elders but didn't feel comfortable letting them in my home so they gave your number. I would really like to hear more about the Restored gospel of Jesus Christ." this really isn't a joke my friends. I laughed and cried. right on the phone as I expressed my love for her and I haven't even met her yet. she said, "when can we meet? Friday?" I said "Friday it is girlfriend. We can hardly wait to see you."
I don't think I've felt so much power in the Restoration of the gospel until that day. A day in my mission that I will never forget. Friday, February 27, 2015. my heart changed completely. I felt power behind sister Ritchie and i's words. it was beautiful. she embraced everything we had to tell her. I actually even got emotional. well, we all did. the member that was with us was bawling. she committed to baptism March 21. miracles have NOT ceased my friends, pray to see them.
that is not all.. I have tried calling this lady for a month and a half now from our area book. (because I love first nations and she is one) we never got a hold of her. but this week, we knocked on her door and she said "I have been praying for you. please come back tomorrow night." we left, and she calls us and says, me and my son, Frisco need help. can you come now? we went right away after finding a member to come with us. they are alcoholics and are completely humbled to change their lives. another time, I have never felt so much power in a lesson. they had questions like "why are there so many churches today? do you believe in an after life? how can I be clean from all I have done?" the most perfect questions, if you ask me. because the gospel of jesus Christ has the answers. the only church that does. we've gone over there every day. they haven't drank since we've come by. her son, who was suicidal said he can see the light now. he doesn't feel anger. he feels happy. and he actually looks us in the eyes now. the sad thing is, he is moving this week up north. but we are getting him in touch with those missionaries. his mom, has a baptismal date for the 21.
another area book miracle: I got a hold of this man named Washington. we went to see him this weekend and he was this big black guy. when we first walked in, I was so dang nervous HAHA! I was the size of his pinky finger. we had an amazing chat. he's from the south, and he is VERY CHRISTIAN. turns out, he is Kalvin Washington. 'THE Kalvin Washington' who is famous all over Canada for being a basketball coach and he played football!!!!!! he didn't mention that until we were walking out of his door. we're like.. MAN C'MON YOU FAILED TO MENTION THAT!!!!!! we felt pretty special and every one we met that day we told them we met Kalvin Washington. what a memory. I gotta go back and get a picture with him.
President Burt did something so courageous up here in the north. something that will soon result in all the mission doing but he started with us. Our districts are now elders and sister combined.. I trusted that that was what we needed to learn an eternal principle working together with men in our ward and businesses. it was honestly one of the most powerful district meetings we've ever had. I absolutely love gathering together as missionaries and feeling the sweet spirit of this work that I will forever be engaged in.
I've been studying all about King Benjamin. if you didn't know, he is my absolute favorite man. (my hubby will be like him) I was in chapter 2 when he is telling us that he is a king, but that is no more than we are. we are as equal as him in our discipleship. we owe as much to God as the prophet King Benjamin did. as he counsels us, he says, "And now, in the first place, he hath created you, and granted unto you your lives, for which ye are indebted unto him. And secondly, he doth require that ye should do as he hath commanded you; for which if ye do, he doth IMMEDIATELY bless you; and therefore he hath paid you." what a promise if I've ever heard one. God will seriously bless us immediately as we follow him commandments. I saw that in my ministry this week. and I know that applies to each of us. we all have the scriptures, we all know we can read about king Benjamin if we don't know him as much as we could. and we call all follow our God a little more than we did yesterday.
I know that god blesses us immediately. its up to us to follow his counsel. remember, that he is aware of us. he created us individually!!! I love my God. I love my savior. for really, he saved me. and thank heavens he did, because I fall short every day. (just ask mom, she can tell you!) except, this week, my biggest struggle was not holding babies. that's a real hard one for me.
I love you guys so much!!
xoxo, Sister Ovard
