HOLA! if this wasn't a turning point in my mission, I don't know what is! missionary work is SO fun. the assistants and President Burt came on Tuesday and did trainings with our zone here in PG. it was absolutely incredible. i am so grateful for my priesthood leaders that do all they can to help me become whom they know i can. there are so many miracles that came from the counsel that they gave us. and I'd love to share them with you!
my goals after leaving that meeting was to 1. Do something scary each day. how are you suppose to grow if you aren't doing things out of your comfort zone? 2. be a professional day maker ;) you heard me, im here to make people smile! that is through the restored gospel. but first: i must make them laugh. right? 3. know the area book (or people in your ward) know them so that i can love them.
miracles to each of these goals that i set were: 1. we decided to do something scary (and different) and go to the mall to go tracting. YES, we sure did. we talked to more people then we ever have on the streets and got MULTIPLE phone numbers and return appointments. the spirit can work through me when we're looking at cute clothes and i have something to relate it too ;) we decided to do another scary thing and go to the food court where there are 10000 people. we were like ok, this is awkward and we cant do it. heavenly father, help us have courage!! we had the idea to buy a poutine and sit down by someone and TEACH a lesson. we eye'd down a lady by herself and made our self at home sitting by her. we taught her and her husband the restoration in the food court. at the mall. yes, getting out of that missionary routine, knocking doors every hour is lame sauce. WAKE UP AND REALIZE THE GOSPEL IS REAL!
miracle to 2. we've been so much happier. telling people "hey, we're trying to make peoples day!" it gets them to laugh. and somehow, let us in there door. which, in this freezing weather, is the greatest miracle i see every day. who would shew someone away that's just trying to make your day? i wouldn't.
and 3. we went through EVERY one in our area book and called them trying to teach every hour of the day and set up appointments from former investigators. we ended up calling a lady named Betty, she wasn't interested at all, but we kept talking and just trying to get her to laugh, we talked about family history and cooking food. then she said she was getting ready to cook chicken and we were both looking at each other thinking "what is something scary we can say right now...." that resulted in... "hey! we need to learn how to cook. can we come over and watch you!?!???" literally, she said.. sure come on over! we had the BEST lesson after watching her cook all about heavenly father. he is so loving. And so merciful. all because of following our priesthood leaders! its real.
many many miracles this week that i am just so grateful for. each day as i study the book of Mormon and bible together, it becomes real to me. we still live in times of having a prophet and modern revelation. don't let a day go by where you don't think about where the book of Mormon came from. its real. and it becomes real as you live it. if you aren't feeling heavenly father speak to you while you pray, stay a little longer. don't be like the man in Luke 9, where he puts other things first. Jesus said, "No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God." there is no "but first..... let me party and then i'll repent... but first.... let me have a nap then i'll read... but first..." Christ said to Follow him NOW, and we must.
The twins are getting baptized on Saturday!! it has been an experience teaching little ones. it is the best to be able to think about how i am going to teach my children one day. Orin said "Jesus is my best friend" and so i teared up. that better come out of my little 10 year olds mouth!!
i couldn't do it without each of you. i testify that families can be together forever each and every day and every time i do i do NOT take it lightly. you run through my mind and a whole wave of gratitude hits my heart. i feel your prayers, and when i say that i truly mean it. i feel them.
and last of all, if you want a laugh: we were talking to someone the other day on the street and sister Lavery farted. this is real unity in a companionship. only 2 more weeks with the sister that has changed my out look on everything!
ONE MORE THING: Ellie is relief society secretary. Jacob is already passing the sacrament!!! Kristine was baptized last night and i got to call her!! Sidney still lives in me. i love my mission.
xoxo, sister ovard
